Rosa setigera (Illinois Rose)

Another common name is Prairie Rose, but it actually prefers savannas or woodland edges where it gets a 1/2 day sun. Pink flowers with yellow centers bloom in July. Fall color is red-orange with rose hips. May be used as a climbing rose. Renewal pruning can be done once every 3 years in the spring. Since plant blooms on new wood, you’ll get blooms the same year.

Associates: Asclepias syriaca (Common Milkweed), Malus ioensis (Prairie Crab), Prunus americana (American Plum), Prunus serotina (Wild Black Cherry), Rhus glabra (Smooth Sumac), Tilia americana (American Linden)
