Quercus imbricaria (Shingle Oak)

Uncommon red oak found in a wide variety of soils: gravel, sand, heavy clay. Requires full sun. Shingle oak leaves have no lobes or teeth. Fall color can be red orange but more often is brown. Because the leaves are persistent until March, shingle oak provides a privacy screen.

Associates: Carpinus caroliniana (Blue Beech), Cornus racemosa (Gray Dogwood), Corylus americana (American Filbert (Hazelnut)), Prunus serotina (Wild Black Cherry), Quercus alba (White Oak), Tilia americana (American Linden)
