Carya tomentosa (Mockernut Hickory)

This hickory differs from the shagbark hickory in that it has 7 leaflets per leaf vs. 5 leaflets per leaf on shagbark. Requires well-drained site in full sun or preferably light shade. Excellent yellow fall color. The name mockernut refers to its having a very large nut but very little meat.
